what it do, shawty?  7April08

Surprisingly enough, there’s actually a business attached to this blog, despite the fact that we talk about it extremely rarely. When we started the blog, we figured that happenings and goings on at the business, or maybe shout outs to other indie businesses, would be the main focus. But, the thing is… There are so many blogs out there that talk about the cool stuff you can buy (whether it’s indie or not), and we didn’t want to compete with them. And as for chronicling the business thing, there just isn’t enough new and different to talk about. While owning a business is really super exciting (honestly, I’m not being sarcastic) and we love every bit of it, it’s actually just kind of like a regular job. In that, it’s not that exciting if you’re not the one doing the work, I guess. So, that’s why all of the posts have to do with movies and tv and books and stuff, because that stuff is interesting to us and, we think, interesting to the people that stumble onto our blog. Or, more interesting, anyway, than chronicling trips to the UPS store to drop off packages or ordering new yarn online or something.
But, the thing is, we do run a business, and we have been running it for the last almost four years now, and we love it possibly in an equal amount to how much we love pointing out gnarly clothes from old movies. So, anyway, since we hardly ever even mention Peep Accessories in any substantial way, I figured I would take you on a little tour of the factory and let you see how things work around here.
This way, to Peep Accessories…

So, this is the main Peep office. It’s also my brother Matt’s old room. And the craft room. Every room in our house has at least two purposes. Anyway, this desk used to be in the basement and was used by my mom and me when she taught me at home. Memories… Sorry. This is just sort of all purpose. Everyone uses it for anything that you’d, you know, need a desk for. Also, I set up my studio using this desk when I take photos.

This is my computer. It’s in the closet in the room, which was converted into a little office. Our dad built the desk inside. I do the website and take care of images and stuff. It is, of course, very messy. Besides my cell phone and graphing calculator (shout out) and clipboard, it also houses things such as headbands, Blockbuster by Mail movies, my D2 the Mighty Ducks soundtrack (signed by Pacey), split rings, the BCBG calendar that was in the last issue of InStyle (thanks! you saved me $1.07)…

the Peep that my sister crocheted, a little bookshelf our dad made, an awesome picture of Sal, me, and our dad wearing fake moustaches, stacks and stacks and stacks of mixed cds, the Babysitters Club episode dvds I made for Sal and Carly for Christmas, my Cube, the Fisher Price play food cupcake that inspired the cupcake sachets, the Simpsons cookie box I keep my USB cables in…

blank cds and dvds and empty cases, lots and lots of lollipops, and Sharpies. Behind the monitor is the bulletin board where we keep the first dollar we ever made, really awful polaroid pictures of ourselves, and our color chart, amongst other things.

Oh, and then there’s the bed, where I take breaks when I’m tired. I don’t nap, though. I do math puzzles. Seriously.

This is the Peep satellite office (and our brother Dave’s old room), where Sally does all her work. She takes care of all the money stuff, because if I was in charge of the money, we would not have any. See how neat it is? That’s because Sally works in there. There’s also a ton of paper and computer related accessories to the right, but the picture I took was mad blurry, so you’ll just have to use your imagination. Everything Sal uses is tucked away neatly in the drawers and the file cabinet and the bookshelf to the right. Don’t think Sally’s too much more with it business-wise than I, though, because there is also a tv and a day bed in there. Who knows what she’s REALLY working on when the door’s closed.

Here’s another “office” where I spend a lot of time: our brother Jeff’s old room. Because it has a tv. And an xbox 360. My xbox 360. Which, when I go in there to “work” on a “project”, it usually means that I’ll eventually just start playing GTA and abandoning work for the night. But, as you can see, I am currently at work on something. It used to be a WHOLE lot messier than this, but I recently cleaned. I know. I’m shocked, too.

The Peep satellite design center is our mom’s office. It’s in the attic, and it’s where her sewing room has been for years. It’s one of the coolest rooms in the whole house, because she made it look like you’re stepping back in time when you come upstairs. This is her sewing station, where all of the bags get put together. And trust me, when that old timey looking phone rings, it’s totally weird. Like, you really did just go back in time.

Here’s part of her big work table, where she keeps all her supplies for all the sachets, plus labels and everything that has to do with putting the bags together. Again, very nice and neat. I don’t know where I get my style from.

And this is where she stores all her fabric and knitting supplies, and where Sally and I sit when we come upstairs to bother her while she’s working.

And, finally, this is the Peep design center. It’s a hall closet that’s right outside the office, and it’s just recently been redone to house all of our Peep supplies (I know, we like turning closets into offices). Eee! It’s so cute!
Okay, so the sign on the wall? Totally. I know. It’s awesome. Mom got it for us for Christmas. I love it.
So, from this side, you can see the water cooler (which we do totally use), and stacks of paper that we use for all kinds of boxes.

And from this side you can see all of our shipping supplies and equipment, plus stacks of boxes.
This is where we store supplies and finished products and also where we do all of our packaging. Notice the lint roller, because we do not let anything ship out to you until it’s speck-free. And that’s a guarantee! (Not really. Don’t sue us if there’s a dust particle on your item, please.)

PS, I totally built those cabinets. And, omg, that drawer on the bottom that doesn’t close all the way drives me CRAZY! But, anyway, on the left, we store embellishments and notions in the drawer on the top, fall bags in the middle, and spring bags in the bottom drawer. Then, on the right, all of our small shipping supplies (tape, tissue paper, purse bags, business cards, etc.) are in the drawer, and jewelry, scarves and sachets, and boxes and box making supplies are in the cabinets. Our dad made the top for it, so we have a surface to work on.

And this is all our yarn and fabric. I know, it’s a lot of yarn. But we need a lot of options, you know? And that yellow box is a homemade version of one of those big giant packing peanuts things from the UPS store. You know, where they pull a handle, and the peanuts come out of a big chute, so you don’t have to move them one handful at a time from a bag to the box you’re packing? So, mine is filled with peanuts, and you pull a handle on the bottom and they pour out into the box, and then you push the handle back and it seals it up. I know, how did I do it, right? Let’s just say, with the power of awesome.

So, anyway, that’s the end of the tour. Please proceed to the gift shop!

So, even though I’ve been to your house innumerable times over the past DECADE I still enjoyed the tour!
